Protocol Manual

The following is just the beginning of the protocol manual for the Seventh Order. The first item we will address is in fact proper ways to address higher ranking officers and dignitaries of state.

Yelbrin to Gul: From the rank of Yelbrin to the rank of Gul, all officers will be addresses as “sir” or by their rank and name such as: “Gul Macet” or “Gul Zantek.” A higher ranking officer may address a lower ranking officer by family name or first name if he or she so chooses. A officer or official of higher ranking status than a Gul may refer to that Gul as “Commander” if he so chooses.

Hydak to Kaylan: By the time a officer reaches the rank of Hydak, he is no longer considered a “sir,” but is instead considered to have progressed beyond that simple title of respect. In all cases they will be referred to by their rank and or title. Such as: “Hydak Mynar” or “Kaylan Cor” or if the officer has a Legate’s title refer to below section. On the personal vessel of a Hydak or Kaylan, the crew is sometimes allowed to address the Hydak or Kaylan as “sir” for sake of convenience and ease of address. This though is not the case on every vessel. If a Hydak or Kaylan possesses a title of Legate, then they may opt for that title. See below for details.

Junior Legate: A Junior Legate may be referred to as “Legate Rakahn” by officers of Galt Rin ranking and below and referred to as “Junior Legate Rakahn” by officers of the Rank of Glinn and above. Rarely is the Junior Legate referred to by his former military rank once he has entered the civilian corp of diplomats.

Legate: The title of Legate or Command Legate always garners the utmost respect from military and civilian officials alike. The proper title when speaking to a Legate is “Your Honor.” When speaking of a Legate / Command Legate / or Ambassador, then use the proper designation: “Legate Kevron,” “Command Legate Kevron,” or “Ambassador Kevron.” The form of address “His / Her Honor” is also appropriate when speaking of the three titles.
