Race: Replicant. Created from Terran, Romulan, Deltan and non-sentient (felinid) DNA.

Background: Created to be a starcluster navigator for a Romulan pirate. Replicant navigational abilities and “homing” talents are famous for exceeding the most advanced technology in areas of extreme subspace and warp interference. Larkin V11.3 spent many years as lead cluster navigator for an outlaw fleet and has superior ship skills in destination targeting, evasion and escape.
Recommendation (Lakat Training Facility): “Take her along if you have to carry her on your back.”

Legal aspects: Although sentient and frequently highly intelligent, Replicants are deemed “property” because of the inclusion of
non-sentient DNA and – where legal – must be owned or manumissioned. Larkin V11.3 (version 11, model 3) was granted freedom and citizenship by Romulan Praetor Tal, an act which earned both the Replicant and the Praetor the undying hatred of her owner, a aging but still powerful and vindictive pirate. Replicants are considered illegal life forms on many worlds and may be
killed on sight, as can their owners. Unless granted free status, Replicants have no personal rights anywhere in the known galaxy. Such laws, of course, are ignored when a highly skilled Replicant is of use to its owner or employer.

Specifics: Similar to the Jem’Hadar, Replicants are bred for specific traits – including obedience.

Lakat Training Facility psy-evaluation: Larkin V11.3 was stolen from the biolab before this trait could be imbedded and has been deemed “dangerously independent and somewhat disrespectful of authority”.

Health: Replicants, unlike androids, are completely biological creations, although they frequently have a variety of mechanical/electric enhancements suited to their particular job duties. Lakat Training Facility med-evaluation: Larkin V11.3 has a few such devices implanted, but her primary difference is her non-sentient DNA. She is tall and thin-boned in the Deltan genotype, with fine silver-blond hair and Romulan skin and ears. Her eyes and lower face reflect her non-sentient ancestry. She has less
body strength than most humanoids but her short-speed times and reflexes are much quicker. She has conscious control over her pheromones, heartbeat and body temperature. Her sense of smell is extremely acute.

History: Replicants were first created on Old Terra in the late 20th Century. The original replicants were animals with implanted human DNA that could be used for medical research. Soon, it became obvious that with increased amounts of human DNA they could be used for work too complex or distasteful for humans or machines to perform. During the Chaos in the early part of the following century, Replicants were upgraded to serve as surrogate “people” – soldiers, experiments, slaves, sex toys – and
became legal property owned by wealthy individuals, large companies and governments. Eventually, public opinion in civilized nations forced Replicant manufacturers to design their creations to appear more “non-human” than human. However, the revulsion engendered by living creatures that were obviously a combination of human and animal resulted in a ban on all Replicants, with a penalty of death for anyone involved in the creation, purchase or exploitation of such beings. Replicant technology went underground and was almost forgotten until the advent of interstellar space flight and subsequent discovery of star clusters: tight groups of stars that made early navigation between them all but impossible. Replicants, when created with a combination of humanoid DNA and DNA from a few non-sentient non-Terran species with unusual homing abilities, could unerringly guide their ships through any interference, reducing travel time around clusters by weeks, months and even years. With eventual improvements in warp drive speed, Replicants once again fell out of “favor” and the Old Terran bans on their existence were
reestablished throughout the Quadrant. Presently, they are used primarily by criminals trying to evade capture in the clusters.
