Background: When Jura's parents decided to become colonists on a remote, backward planet, they were disowned by her mothers side of the family, who placed a higher value on what they perceived to be a loss of social status and embarrassment.  They could no longer brag about their daughters accomplishments to their wealthy friends without adding she had become a lowly colonist. In their eyes, this was as bad as if they were Bajoran sympathists. Due to growing up on a remote nontraditional colony, has never mastered the art of small talk, and has difficulty making friends easily.  Usually offends people without meaning to. Although others would consider her attractive, she perceives herself as a'science geek'.  Adding to this feeling is her complete lack of fashion sense, and she looks forward to wearing a uniform.
