Psychological evaluation: Shauli is reserved and quiet, serious and studious. Because her childhood was spent primarily on Federation worlds (see background), she feels that she missed quite a bit that other Cardassian children experienced. Because her parents died when Shauli was so young, she learned most of what she knows about her homeworld from reading, second-hand reports, and misinformation. Shauli feels compelled to prove that she truly is a Cardassian despite her upbringing in Federation space. Shauli has a kind and generous side, but she is so paranoid at times that she rarely lets anyone get close enough to discover this side of her.
Most of her childhood she never formed any attachments to anyone because she was reluctant to trust any non-Cardassians, and likewise - she was often the object of scorn and fear.
Special Talents: Shauli speaks fluent Federation English and some Klingonese. She is calm and resourceful in a crisis, managing to wait until the situation has resolved itself before dealing with any emotions which might be attached to it. She is an excellent pianist having taught herself the skill when she was living on Betazed.
Reason for wanting to join the Cardassian military: Shauli wishes to use her medical training for the betterment of the Cardassian people, and she feels that the Seventh Order is part of the hope for the future of Cardassia. She knows better than most the need for competent emergency medical care.
Place of education: Growing up in the Federation, Shauli was still recognized as brilliant. The Federation educated her at the best of schools, and she studied on earth, Betazed and Vulcan. Her university studies were completed on Betazed, and her medical training was done at the Vulcan Academy of Science, Graduate School of Medicine. After finally being returned to Cardassia, Shauli spent 6 months doing intensive training at Cardassian hospitals.
Major at the place(s) of education: Shauli studied biology and chemistry on Betazed and received her medical degree on Vulcan.
Background: Shauli's father was a medical researcher who received
permission from the Federation to travel in Federation territory to search
for new treatments for a plague which was threatening several Cardassian
outposts. Shauli was only 3 years old when the family left Cardassia
to travel throughout the Federation. Alleging that her father was
a Cardassian spy, Federation authorities tried to arrest him. Fleeing
from Federation officials, her father and mother were killed when their
shuttlecraft was fired upon. Miraculously, Shauli survived
the crash landing on Mars Colony, but Federation officials did not know
what to do with the
Cardassian child. Diplomatic efforts were not successful in returning
Shauli to the Cardassian homeworld - partly because records were in disarray,
and partly because her parents had no living family members who could
claim little Shauli. Doing the best she could in hostile circumstances,
Shauli took advantage of every opportunity presented to her, and as soon
as she was able applied to be repatriated to her people.
