Tane's patriotism is absolute, and he is weary of non-Cardassians unless, historically, or currently they had good relations with his people. Tane leans toward authoritarianism and order, and has come to like the former government which was Central Command as he has had an interest and minored in political science. Tane, does not favor the Dominion for he believes that if Cardassia is to lead the Alpha Quadrant as Gul Dukat said, it needs to be Cardassia and not an autonomous state of the Dominion. In Tane's family it is most common for the eldest (preferably son) to go into the Cardassian military, his younger siblings have the choice. Most recently, his father, Amin Trapel, retired at the rank of Gul in the Cardassian military, specifically serving in the 5th Order. He also served on Bajor and was transferred back to Cardassia Prime when being promoted to the rank of Gul after the pull out of Cardassian forces from Bajor. The Trapel family has lived on Cardassia most of it's family history and although it has a long line of soldiers, there are a few who have been in the other lines of work. In the civilian field the Trapel family has had a fairly prominent line of merchants. There have also been a few relatives in the business of intelligence operations including the former Obsidian Order, though no known direct or indirect Trapel family members have served at any recent time.
