Appearance:

Not especially tall, Rezan has a certain amount of physical presence. He has a relatively slight physique, and aquiline features combined with steely grey eyes. He does not smile very often, but when he does, it is a surprising smile that looks very warm- but this does not always touch his eyes. Neither particularly attractive or unattractive, he can be very charming when he tries to be- which isn't always very often.

Psychological evaluation:

Rezan is best described as 'dangerous'. Although seemingly quite straightforward at times, and on the surface friendly if reserved, he has quickly learned the Political Officer's trade. He has a very personal agenda of revenge, which colours a great deal of what he does. He is highly intelligent, and also possesses a fair degree of base cunning. In short, he is not afraid to use whatever method it takes to achieve his ends- and to serve the Dominion.

Background:

Born as a result of a liaison between an aristocratic dilettante and a barmaid from one of the seedier bars of Althenarion City, Rezan did not have the ideal start in life. His father's family would have preferred it if he did not exist, and his father did not seem particularly bothered if he lived or not, although he did supply Leana with sufficient monies to make sure her son at least got a good education. However, Leana was hardly the ideal mother; both her and his father were 'experimenters' in drugs and by the time Rezan was five, she had developed a serious habit. Rezan was mainly raised by his maternal grandparents, who were poor but decent folks. They impressed upon him that his background was better than theirs, and that he must trade on this, as surely he was destined for a better life as a result?

Rezan grew up a clever boy, and won a scholarship to one of the major schools of the region, which allowed him to get a good education. In particular, history and politics caught his eye. He obtained a place at the University on Cardassia IV to study politics and economics, and at one point considered going into business, until three things happened that changed his life.

The first was the death of his father from alcohol poisoning when Rezan was nineteen years old. Although not much of a father, Varren left Rezan a considerable chunk of his estate-, which the Trelor family contested, and eventually won. This realisation that, as an illegitimate child, he had few rights in society incensed Rezan. Out of spite, he stopped using the surname Dureen and took to using bar Trelor, although he had no legal right to do so.

The second was meeting his wife, Kylara, at the age of twenty. Kylara was also an oddity in Cardassian society; the daughter of a Jurvot in the Fifth Order and his wife, a human xenobiologist. Despite her mixed breeding- and possibly because they were both outsiders- Rezan fell deeply in love with her and they married before he had even completed his degree. Kylara was passionate about both sides of her heritage, and believed that Cardassia and the Federation were natural allies, not the enemies they had been so often. On graduating, she joined Lakat, and persuaded Rezan to follow. She became a science officer, while Rezan trained for Operations.

On leaving Lakat, they were assigned to different ships, but managed to meet up on a fairly regular basis. Life continued in this vein for two years- until the Klingons invaded and Kylara's ship was destroyed with the loss of all hands.

In his grief, Rezan questioned more or less everything about Cardassian society- and was easy pickings for the Obsidian Order,- what was left of it- who selected 'outsiders' with promise pretty much as an admissions policy. He proved an apt pupil- a little too apt. When the Dominion allied with Cardassia and the rules changed, Rezan was quick to spot the shift in power- and to ally himself with the Vorta on Anrik Nor, where he was now serving in a junior PO capacity. As he saw it, the Dominion represented the best chance for some real power in the quadrant- and revenge on the Klingons- as well as revenge on the aristocracy that had spurned him. The Dominion didn't care much for class or tradition- it wanted loyalty and talent, and Rezan had both of those in spades. He worked more or less as a Dominion investigator subsequently, being involved with rooting out TRI cells as well as searching for non-Dominion sentiment, and reporting it back to the Dominion command structure- bypassing any Cardassian superiors where he considers it justified.
