Dates: 2367-2372 Major at the place(s) of education: Computer and Communication Sciences Background: Eela comes from a large extended family, with four generations living together on the modest family estate. Her grandfather Rulget, a former Gul of the old order, is a traditionalist and instills his values in his children and grandchildren, along with the sense to outwardly profess support for the government in power. Grandfather Rulget insists that frugality, discipline, and honor be the code of the household. Elders are treated with great respect and the resources of the extended family are used to provide the many children with excellent educational opportunities. Until the children of the family are of age to attend the university, they receive all schooling on the family estate. Rulget himself teaches the children Cardassian history and martial arts. The numerous parents, aunts, uncles, as well as older cousins and siblings, impart the knowledge from their areas of expertise to the young family members, both informally and in structured classes. Outside teachers and tutors are brought in only when necessary, but when they are Rulget handpicks them himself. The family grows a fair portion of its own food. Old growth orchards provide different fruits each season. Although no one in the family lacks for any physical necessities, they are expected to indulge in physical luxuries very sparingly. After all, times have been difficult for many Cardassians, and excess resources are to be shared with those in need. Eela's mother is a physician. In additional to maintaining a medical practice in the greater community, she sees to the healthcare needs of the family. Eela's father is a research botanist, who is an assistant director at the nearby Northern State Agricultural Research and Development Center. At the age of 17 Eela left the family home to attend the University of Cardassia, where she majored in Computer and Communication Sciences and minored in mathematics. In addition, while at the university she attained proficiency in both the Romulan and Vulcan languages. She was a member of the university's martial arts team and volunteer in community projects aimed at improving the lives of impoverished families. During her time at the university Eela came to believe that both social and political reform are needed to restore Cardassia to its former glory. Although once hopeful that that Cardassia's alliance with the Dominion would improve the lives of the Cardassian people, she now feels the alliance only weakens and drains Cardassia. After graduation, Eela decided to join the military to serve Cardassia and to, hopefully, be part of the force that one day restores Cardassia to its former glory. She secretly sympathizes with the goals and beliefs of the outlawed TRI Council, and resents the Dominion's domination of her people. However, she values social order and obedience to legitimate authority, and will serve Cardassia with honor. |
